Jesuit Novice Scrimmage

2017 — TX/US

We look forward to hosting you at the 2017 Jesuit Novice Policy Debate Scrimmage.

For the purposes of the scrimmage, we define a novice as someone for whom Education is their first topic.  We will have four preliminary debates, powering matching rounds 3 and 4 off of rounds 1 and 2.  There will be no elimination rounds; however, we will award top 10 speakers as well top 10 teams at an awards ceremony.

We will provide both breakfast and lunch to competitors.  We believe that this will assist us in keeping to a reasonable schedule for the day.  Please communicate any food allergies or dietary restrictions in a timely manner so we can order food appropriately.

Registration will be at 730 in the morning on October 7th.  Rounds will be at 830, 1030, 1 and 3 with a short awards ceremony at 5 pm in Hughes Hall.

Most, but not all, Dallas area coaches have agreed to participate in a novice core files system for the first two months of the season.  The goal of this effort is to provide focused content for novice policy debaters while they are learning the technical skills of policy debate.  It’s the view of many coaches in the area that starting with a limited number of arguments that are predictable, and can be explained within the basic concepts of debate, assists students in feeling comfortable in their first experiences in debate.

While participation in the use of these novice core files is not a requirement for registering for the tournament, we support this effort.  If you would like more information about the files, please feel free to contact Tracy McFarland at Jesuit College Prep by emailing her at tmcfarland@jesuitcp.org
